| As for methods of spreading the cards for Tarot divination, there are today
innumerable versions to choose from. Each diviner will have his or her own favorites. It has been
my experience that any method can produce results, provided you approach the cards in the right
frame of mind, that is, with respect and due seriousness.
The rules and spreads that are contained in the “Little White Book” (LWB to Tarot fans) that generally accompanies every divinatory deck are perhaps as good as any. After many years of consulting the cards off and on, I have come to the conclusion that the ultimate secret of successful Tarot divination lies not in the cards, but within the card reader, in his or her own deep mind. The cards require interpretation, and the interpretations offered by the LWBs, traditional or not, are ultimately only scaffolding on which to hang your own intuition, which is something you acquire over a period of time and with much trial and error. The cards provide wonderful archetypal, highly evocative symbols which are, in effect, medieval mirrors of ourselves and all the conditions we find ourselves subjected to. – PAUL HUSON Read the full historical account of Tarot divination by a noted authority in the current Witches' Almanac.
